Very interesting …..jom baca…
“He changed to win and reads the malays & rakyat
physic very well. But most of all he can brings Msia to the next level”
Is Mahathir A Changed Man?
Many said he is. But I don’t think so. His ways and
approaches may now be different, but he is still the same man as we know and
love. A thinker. A great strategist. He reads the ground well and adjusts
accordingly. That’s why he won 5 consecutive Malaysian Polls over 25 years of
political rule. And now the 6th.
During the 1983-2003 Tun Dr. Mahathir tenureship,
Malaysia transformed itself from agriculture based nation to that of a
manufacturing one. We became one of the ‘Asian Tigers’.
He raised the living standards and injected a huge
dose of ‘Malaysia Boleh’ (‘Malaysia Able’) branding. He was an outspoken critic
of Western Dominance. He put Malaysia on the World Map. We had a sense of
National Identity, with pride and confidence.
This ‘Transformation’ can only be done by Autocratic
Leaders. You see that in Lee Kuan Yew and Sukarno. It is not easy to change the
attitude, perception and mentality of a Nation. Only strong leaders can do
this. Malaysia wants to be led by leaders with vision and conviction.
But Autocratic Leadership does not work forever, as
one transforms a Nation it reaches a height where there is economic contentment
- when the stomachs is full the minds wonder and crave for freedom of
expression. This is a typical syndrome for most Nation moving from a developing
status to that of an developed one. With higer education, comes demands for
more freedom.
Tun Dr. Mahathir recognises that the Malaysia now has
different needs and demands. So he ‘adepts and adopts’. That’s the mark of a
great leader, the ability to read the Nation’s mood, needs and wants; and do
the necessary adjustments.
Leaders can be dictatorial yet inspire and motivate
if they listen and communicate effectively... and honestly. And that’s is what
Tun Dr Mahathir is doing now.... communicating with us honestly.
And that to me, is a mark of a World-Class Statesman
# author unknown.
